Product Description

The Metropolis Collection by De'Longhi is designed to offer the ultimate in both style and practicality. Boldly combining the strong expressionist shapes of the 1940s and 1950s with inimitable classic Italian style, the Metropolis toaster--with matching kettle available--really is the essence of good design.

The CTM4023 Metropolis has an exclusive matt gunmetal grey finish that will not show fingerprints, ensuring your toaster maintains its stylish Italian design and finish. This toaster has been designed to produce four slices of toast but, as two slots can be operated independently, it will also cook two slices without wasting energy heating unnecessary slots.

The De'Longhi Metropolis has a variable browning control, allowing you to choose how dark or light you would like your finished toast to be, and variable width bread slots to ensure that almost any size and shape of bread can be accommodated. It has an automatic self-centring system for even toasting and hi-rise facility to allow easy removal of smaller items such as muffins.

The CTM4023 has stop and cancel facilities, a reheat button to warm unbuttered toast and a frozen bread setting. For safety and to keep your workspace tidy, it features two removable crumb trays for easy cleaning and non-slip feet, making the Metropolis as easy to use as it is attractive in your kitchen.

5Great Toast, Great Looks
By R. MCMILLAN
I was a bit reluctant to part with so much money for a toaster.I'm sure that the last one I bought only cost a fiver, but that was a long tme ago! I kept returning to this model though, as it looked so good and the other family members agreed that it looked cool. Aesthetically it has not dissapointed. The toaster is well constructed, with sturdy dials and leavers. Of course the most important attribute of a toaster must be how it toasts. We have tried just about everything, bread of all types, muffins, crumpets, toasting croisants, scones and buns. All have toasted wonderfully. The smaller items are easily retrievable using the "high lift" leaver. The toasting is even and once the correct setting is chosen, perfect for each item. The toasted item is always warmed all the way through, not just cooked on the outside. I can particullarly recommend the toasting croisants! The reheating button also works really well. The reheated toast was warmed, but not cooked further. Altogether this toaster has lived up to, if not surpassed expectations. It has pride of position in our kitchen.

5Nice-looking, excellent browning controls -- a good buy
By Gary
This is a nice-looking toaster -- adorns the kitchen in a sort of 50s retro way. Has a lovely smooth action, quite elegant in the way it pops up -- the toast not so much pops as emerges. The browning control is the best I've ever had (ie doesn't go from white to black in .0001 of a nanometer turn) -- you get a really responsive control that genuinely gives you grades of browning as you move from 1-5. Takes hot cross buns very nicely. The only downside is the slot length -- if you have big bread slices (eg from a breadmaker) you'll need to cut them in half or trim them before they'll fit. I was disappointed by this at first, but now I've got used to it the good features far outweigh this, which doesn't bother me now. The warm-again feature is good: I've used it already. Separate operation (with separate controls) for two/two is also very good. Overall: a very nice toaster -- glad I bought it.NB. I've had it two years now (2008) and it's all gone a bit pear-shaped I'm afraid. Only one side toasts properly now, and the browning control now only takes up to mid-brown.

2Looks good, but doesn't do a great job!
By Danni
I have never considered reviewing a toaster, but now i'm comparing everybody elses reviews whilst I choose a new toaster. Therefore I thought I should let you know why i'm getting a new one; - Slices of bread need to be turned 180 degrees to cook the top! - One side browns more than the other - It takes a long time, its slower than a grill - Its huge!So i'm trying to find something a little smaller and less gimicky, that just gets on and quickly makes me some golden brown toast!
