This bread maker makes good bread but is designed badly and customer services are less than helpful. my bread makers paddle stopped rotating when experiencing resistance of kneading dough after 13months of regular use of once a week. On inspection I discovered that the large cog under the machine that rotates the paddle was slipping due to it being made of a soft plastic which has resulted on the center of this cog being worn out, I contacted russell hobbes directly who said this part is not considered consumable and so do not make replacement parts. This of course makes good financial sense for them as they expect the customer to purchase a new bread maker for the sake of an easily replaceable and inexpensive part. I strongly recommend steering clear of this product unless you wish to replace this product every couple of years. If anybody does know where you can get replacement parts for this product it would be greatly appreciated.

We're just in the process of returning the Breadman to Amazon or Russell Hobbs. We've had it for approx. 8 months and it's been making lovely healthy bread. However, the mechanism for holding the bread tin doesn't work now (2 metal prongs at either side of the bread tin), so when it's kneading, the bread tin now lifts up and rides on top of the rotating base so it doesn't get kneaded. Now I can see the problem with it I can't even see how a direct replacement would satisfy the problem in the long term. I would prefer a refund or a similar Russell Hobbs with a totally different fixing system.

I bought this as a replacement for my old machine, when I couldn't purchase a new baking tin.The recipe I had been using for years was for a larger loaf than the new tin, so decided to try the one included. As a result I am now using much less salt and sugar and getting a good loaf into the bargain.Quick loaves are excellent, as is the different recipe for pizza dough.The only reason I am not giving this machine 5 stars is because of the display, which could be brighter.At under 5ft tall, I have to stand on a step to look down on it, and despite good eyesight and with the kitchen light on, (basement kitchen) it is still hard to read.Other than that, an excellent machine. Well worth the money.Update September 2011.The seal on the bread pan failed a couple of weeks ago & would no longer hold water.I had bought a 3 yr insurance when buying the breadmaker but was not sure whether this fault would be covered.It was and I received a full money back refund within a week of making the claim.As Amazon no longer sells it direct, am debating whether to try a different machine.
