5Better Bread
By Tortuga
I already owned a bread maker, it produced reasonable bread BUT the kneading paddle made enormous holes in the bread. The effort involved in getting the loaf out of the baking pan sometimes was more than the bread was worth. I purchased this Morphy Richards one with the paddle that lies flat after kneading is done. What a difference! I am in the danger of making too much bread. The recipe book and instructions are very precise. At first I thought it was too fiddly but I stuck to their way and now have delightful bread and its a pleasure to use the machine. Thank you Morphy Richards and thank you Amazon.

4Our daily bread...
By stylepuppy
What is it about the smell of baking bread that seems so homey and comforting? We just moved house and firing up the new breadmaker to make a sunflower seed loaf suddenly made the new place seem much more ours, it must be some kind of primeval 'home and hearth' thing? This Morphy Richards certainly looks the part with all the brushed metal and a touch control panel but it isn't all for show, it bakes a good loaf too. The range of programs covers everything you might need including making dough (without baking), jams, marmalades and using bread or cake mixes. Note that the breadmaker switches to a 'keep warm' mode after many of the preset programs finish - if you don't switch it off manually after you remove the bread-pan it will continue to heat (I discovered by accident). The collapsible blade is a clever idea and does result in slightly smaller 'wound' in the base of your loaf, but it's a bit awkward in practice. It's not fixed to the bread-pan and so tends to get embedded into the base of your bread and you have to perform an emergency paddle-ectomy on a burning hot loaf if you want to wash or re-use the breadmaker straight away. Morphy Richards even sell a special paddle-removing hook for doing this, though I'm not sure if it's compatible with this model. The 'cool touch' sides that Morphy Richards advertise seem quite hot touch to me, you certainly need to keep a working breadmaker well out of reach of young kids or your favourite chocolate bars. The nut and fruit dispenser is a nice feature, it looks a bit 'tacked-on' to the design of the overall breadmaker but it works well. The interior light is actually more useful than you'd expect and means there's no temptation to open the breadmaker mid-cycle and spoil a bake.I've had a basic affordable breadmaker before and it was OK, but this Morphy Richards is definitely better - it seems to bake more evenly, bread rises and shapes well and browns evenly all round. It's also quieter and feels like it has no real problem kneading heavier doughs, my previous breadmaker struggled sometimes. I'm still not convinced making your own bread is any cheaper than buying it - maybe if you enjoy the best artisan breads it's a money-saver - but it's a lovely addition to a home and it's nice to know what's actually in your daily bread.

5Excellent results and great fun!
By Adamski
This is my second breadmaker but it is far better than my old one for two reasons, namely the fact it makes better bread and also that the mixing paddle retracts before baking to ensure no large holes are left in the bread. On my old machine the paddle would remain in the bread as it was baking, requiring me to cut a huge hole in my loaf to remove it.There are plenty of different baking programs and I'm having great fun trying my hand at different loaves and styles. I like the way that I can select varying crusts as my previous breadmaker baked very crispy loaves and I much prefer a softer style. The seed/nut dispenser is great for a no-hassle method of adding them to my loaves. I baked an especially nice soft walnut loaf the other day and my seeded batch/granary loaves are brilliant. It only takes a few 'experiments' to get the recipes right as aside from the basic white loaf, I do find most of the enclosed recipes a little sweet. Adding less sugar is the solution!I am currently experimenting with organic flour and my mum has requested a gluten-free loaf which is baking as I type this review. The smell of freshly baked bread filling the kitchen is divine! If anyone has ever fancied a breadmaking machine but been put off the idea by the thought of it being too much hassle or the finished product perhaps not being as nice as that bought from a shop, let me allay your fears. The bread this machine bakes is so much tastier and nothing beats a super-fresh, warm loaf! One word of caution though, don't use the quick bake option. The bread is so much nicer when it is allowed to bake slowly. With the timer feature, this can be done whilst you're asleep or at work! It takes ten minutes to prepare the machine and then you just leave it for a few hours. Thoroughly recommended!
