Should have done it sooner
By Clockwatcher
If you're vacillating about buying a Panasonic breadmaker, please just go for it, you won't regret it - I only wish I'd done it sooner.I bought my 1st bread maker (different make)10 years ago for £25 off the local market & it was OK & still worked, but with a Heath-Robinson fix, so, after much procrastination (after all the old one still worked) & weeks of research & reading reviews my conclusion was - Panasonic has to be the new machine of choice and, as my old machine has a silver finish, the SDZB2502 for aesthetics. Order & delivery worked seamlessly.I had concerns at first - the recipes were different from my old machine - no powdered milk, less butter, less yeast, ingredients placed in the pan in a different order. I shouldn't have worried. At my first attempt with the Panasonic (using cheap strong bread flour & slightly out of date yeast) the loaf turned out far, far superior in taste, texture & appearance to anything from my old machine, in fact there's no comparison, what I've been making all these years is just an apology for bread! Confident in the capability of the Panasonic SDZB2502, I've experimented (with great success) using my own flour mixes, substituting some of the white four with spelt & hemp flours & I'm looking forward to making other different blends with oats, bulghur & seeds. The Panasonic SDZB2502 looks good, it's compact, the exterior doesn't get too hot, it's quiet (compared to my old one anyway) it's easy to use, with clear instructions & useful recipes, it's easy to clean as the pan & paddle are non-stick & the yeast dispenser & the fruit/seed dispencer are brilliant, making sure ingredients are added at the correct stage. Just one gripe - the 'finish programme' beep is very quiet, but I can live with that, compensated by delicious bread.

Really impressed. Not had a bad loaf yet Edit: Scary spares prices!

This is our first bread machine, having seen friends having mixed experiences with others. Living in France we have great bread available all the time, but we wanted to have it fresh in the morning without getting into the car, and to know what is in the bread. We bought this machine after reading lots of reviews, primarily for the benefit of having the yeast kept separate from the mix when waiting overnight. Every single loaf has been excellent, and we have not bought a loaf since we bought the machine a couple of months ago. We have changed the recipes a lot, so now we don't use any butter and only a tiny amount of salt, and we mix up the flour as we feel like it, and the bread is delicious. We've done white, brown, granary and pizza dough. We've not tried the others yet, but will do (I'm searching for malt extract for malt loaf next). The different settings don't seem to change the loaf too much. The lightest crust is lighter where in contact with the tin, but the top of the loaf is similar on the light or dark setting. We use medium or light most of the time, but it doesn't really matter. Doing a quick loaf results in about 2/3rds of the height, but otherwise the loaf is similar. If you need to do a quick loaf just go up a size. It always seems well mixed and evenly risen. The paddle comes out of the loaf and stays in the tin every time, so no digging it out afterwards, and so far the non-stick is like new, though it is early days yet.Edit: My son just scraped off the nonstick from the bread pan trying to get a loaf out with a knife (normally drop out easily), and I've just found out a new pan is £72!!
